Part 001 Planning and Storyboarding
Because of the problems with getting video shoots to match, it is important to get all of your material in the bag at the same time. It’s also important for efficiency in setting up time.
On larger shoots, in terms of having to pay for talent (actors), let alone the issues of preparing the shooting stage, hiring staff (and equipment) and any venue rental fees. All these mean that time really is money and efficiency is the key to a professional production.
Naturally the script needs to be prepared to stop wasting time editing later and finding out you don’t have what you need when it comes to post pro.
A storyboard may sound too grand and elaborate for smaller productions, but a storyboard can be a great bonus for production creativity, not just efficiency.
A storyboard in simple terms, is a list of what shots are required, but shown in a simplistic cartoon frame style. The pictures help to picture what sort of angles and shots need to be taken and to maintain continuity.
